Choose a South Jersey roofer by checking the business behind the estimate, its current registration and manufacturer claims, relevant project evidence, and the proposed work. A familiar name, a badge or a low total is not a substitute for those checks.

Verify the Business and Credentials

Start with the name, phone number and address on the estimate. Match them to the company’s own website and the relevant official record. A registered legal address may differ from a customer-facing office; ask the contractor to explain a difference rather than assuming it represents another branch.

For New Jersey work, use the state’s official business registration lookup. Precision lists NJ HIC 13VH13920000. Check the current record before hiring; a number printed on a website does not establish today’s status. The NJ Division of Consumer Affairs contractor page is another official starting point.

Manufacturer designations should also lead to the manufacturer’s own directory. Precision’s Owens Corning profile identifies it as a Roofing Preferred Contractor. That designation is not a promise that every project includes every manufacturer warranty. Compare the actual products, eligibility and written terms in your proposal.

Ask for Work That Resembles Your Project

A useful project example identifies the town, the work performed, the materials when known, and what stage each photo shows. Look for more than an attractive finished roof.

• Roof replacement with roof-edge work: the 13-square Deptford project identifies Owens Corning Duration shingles in Desert Rose and contracted gutter, fascia and soffit work. Ask which of those items belong in your own quote.

Compare Written Estimates for the Same Work

Ask each contractor to identify:

• The measured roof area and old layers included in removal
• The shingle system, underlayment, flashing, ventilation and penetrations being addressed
• What decking is assumed and how newly exposed conditions would be documented and priced
• Whether gutters, fascia, soffit, skylights or solar work are included or excluded
• Material staging, property protection, debris handling and cleanup
• Scheduling assumptions, payment terms and the process for approving changes
• The applicable workmanship and product warranty documents, including conditions and exclusions

Ask Why Repair or Replacement Is Recommended

Ask the contractor to show the visible problem and explain the condition around it. A focused leak or damaged detail may be repairable; widespread wear or recurring problems may call for broader work. You should understand the reason for the recommendation before approving it.

Know Who You Will Contact
